Four generations of passion for vineyards created Messapica - our launch brand of beautiful wine and extra virgin olive oil - bringing a touch of Salento sun to the world. 

Messapica is the ancient greek name for Salento, our sunny region in South of Italy, meaning "land between two sea", the Adriatic and the Ionian.

Our great grandfathers started up in 1950 and over the years our skills and estates have grown and we now produce several grape varieties including Negoamaro, Primitivo, Malvasia and Chardonnay in our two estates in San Pancrazio Salentino and Nardò

In Messapica products we bring you a culmination of our knowledge and skills, and we trust you will enjoy a moment of Salento with family and friends.




Our estates

Our estates are situated in San Pancrazio Salentino and Nardò in the heart of Salento, in the most renowned area for Negroamaro production. Our San Pancrazio estate in the Salice Salentino DOC area has a very deep mineral and silty soil, perfect for quality viticolture. We like to experiment with all the latest technologies in viticulture whilst being respectful of ancient wine making traditions.

Nardo’ is our place of birth, where our great grandparents started the adventure in agriculture back in the 1950’, with five hectars of red rocky land. Our Nardò estate is surrounded by a wild and lush nature at only 4 Km from the Ionian sea. Most of our olive groves are situated here, together with Primitivo and Negroamaro grapes.

Marco Funiati
Marco Funiati

An engineer by trade, a vineyard owner and sommelier by passion. His ambition is to bring the traditions of Salento to the world through the excellence of the food and wine of the region. Marco was brought up in San Pancrazio Salentino immersed in agriculture, and has studied and lived in Turin, London and Paris. His passions include wine, Sunday’s pizza, structural engineering and tractors.

Mimino Funiati
Mimino Funiati

Mimino is the family man. With over 30 years of vineyard management and a passion for agriculture, Mimino works alongside labourers, enjoying a glass of wine after long days in the countryside. He feels fortunate to have realized his dream of working alongside nature to provide the best possible grapes year after year. His passions include vintage cars, helicopters, piano and country life.
